Mobility Management : Analysis of the residence of the employees and students of the Politecnico di Milano
Analysis of the distribution over the area of the residences of the personnel and students who attend the Headquarters of Politecnico every day as well as of their accessibility. The activity is carried out together with the working party of the Mobility Management of the Politecnico di Milano. It is crucial for the decision-making to locate and carry out actions that can be implemented within the University as far as sustainable mobility is concerned.

Analysis of goods traffic across the Alps

Analysis of goods transport along the alpine area, across the following points:

  • Comparison between the traffic flows resulting from the survey CAFT and the traffic flows surveyed at motorway tollbooths or tunnels in Italy;
  • Study of goods traffic evolution in the five-year period 1999-2004 as a function of the quantity of goods transported, the number and type of vehicles in transit;
  • Definition of the origins and destinations of the journeys for each crossing and definition of the borders crossed by the traffic flows having their origin or destination in the main Italian regions;
  • Evaluations on the distribution of the journeys across the Alps on the road network of the area by using the traffic model TRANS-ALPS, and definition of the heavy traffic share crossing the Alps with respect to the total amount of heavy vehicles travelling on the TEN European and on the Italian road network;

Science and technique for the quality of the local mobility: Traffic and environmental risks in urbanized areas: analysis criteria and lines of intervention

Setting up new instruments of analysis to estimate the results of intervention aimed at limiting the impacts of urban mobility on the quality of the air. The aim was both to update the state of the art and to offer some support to public bodies that are interested in applying the methods set up during the research, both for the city of Milan and for other metropolitan cities.

   
Traffic and Pollution in the city of Milan - Scenarios of urban traffic: composition of the fleet, vehicle flow, control strategies by means of traffic lights

Development of methods and models to evaluate interventions on traffic, on the traffic lights in particular, in order to reduce air pollution.
